This course is designed to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of law and society. We will explore the topics traditionally discussed in a law and society course, such as the definition of law, the relationship between law and society, the function and dysfunction of law, families of law, and approaches to the study of law; theories of law and justice; the structure and function of the courts, legislatures, and administrative agencies; the legal profession; access to justice and legal ethics; dispute resolution; criminal courts; juries; law and social control; the impact of law on society; and law and racial and ethnic inequality. We will also devote discussion to international human rights and international crimes, privacy, technology and surveillance, and other related contemporary issues to help facilitate your learning.
