Welcome to Modern Mathematics. The following information is a guide to successful completion of this course. I hope that you find the course informative and enjoyable! Whilst some parts will be challenging, every student should be able to get a good grade with reasonable effort. I look forward to working with you! Modern Mathematics is designed to help students connect mathematics to modern life. The course begins with a brief review of the real number system and investigates the mathematics of growth and decay. It investigates population growth and using similar mathematics; the growth of an investment as well as other financial math such as housing finance and credit cards. Students will learn to model using Excel, and be able to develop basic formulae. Finally, students learn practical applications of probability. By the end of this course students will have made connections between the lecture room and some of the phenomena that impact each f us in our everyday life.
