Welcome to Statics Class Spring 2021

We will be studying the equilibrium of point and object, how to calculate reactions, how to analyze trusses and frames, how to calculate a centroid and how to calculate a moment of inertia.

This is an exciting and very important course.  It is exciting because it will give us a chance to use the theories we learned in Physic I to solve practical engineering problems.  It is import because it is a prerequisite for Solid Mechanics.  Statics is the study of external forces on a body and how they reach equilibrium  Solids uses these external forces to find the forces and stresses internal to the body.

Bottom line is that you need to have a thorough understanding of Statics to perform well in Solid Mechanics.

I will try to make the class interesting and realistic by sharing my experiences from many years practicing structural engineering prior to coming to Manhattan College.  I will continue my tradition of the bad joke of the day.

So, again, welcome to the course.  We will work hard but also try to enjoy ourselves at the same time.
