This course allows students to learn the fundamental concepts of engineering analysis of deformable elastic bodies subjected to axial, torsional, flexural and shearing loads. Stress/strain relations. Analysis of stress and strain in beams, shafts, columns, etc. Deformations and deflections due to mechanical and thermal loads. Statically determinate and indeterminate systems. Pressure vessels. Principal stresses and stress transformations. Principles of superposition and compatibility. Elastic column buckling and critical loads.
