Modern mathematics is comprised of units that connect mathematics to modern life. The course begins with a brief review of the real number system and then investigates the mathematics of growth and decay. It investigates population growth and using similar mathematics; the growth of investments as well as other financial math such as housing finance and credit cards. Students will learn to model using Excel, and be able to develop basic formulas. Finally, students learn practical applications of probability. By the end of this course students will have made connections between the mathematics lecture room and some of the phenomena that impact on our everyday life.
