Since the very beginnings of political thinking, both theorists and rulers have observed and reported on the events, people, and topics that shaped their respective societies and cultures. Many times, they used their writings to interpret or criticize those in power or even the implications of the broader establishments themselves. This course explores the reflections of many such individuals throughout the pre-modern and modern eras and how they understood or even influenced their own political environments over time. By adding historical context to these theorists’ writings, we will ultimately craft a valuable and unique understanding of many events from over the past 500+ years.
