A number of ethical issues can be identified as  associate with the practice of medicine, the pursuit of biomedical research, or both. This set of ethical issues constitutes the subject matter of biomedical ethics. The proper task of biomedical ethics is to advance reasoned analysis in an effort to clarify and resolve such issues. What we term " biomedical ethics" is also commonly termed " bioethics". Although both terms are very well established and can be used interchangeably, biomedical ethics has the virtue of making more explicit the concern with issues associated with the practice of medicine. In any case, it is necessary in this context to understand the practice of medicine in an inclusive way, as referring not only to the professional activities of physicians but also to the distinctive activates of other health-care professionals.
